Joe and Susan Crowley know a little something about giving back and putting out fires, literally. As a former firefighter and a paramedic, Joe and Susan (respectively) have spent years running into burning buildings and saving lives. Now, they spend their days helping families find a little slice of paradise they themselves found in Vero Beach.
Joe and Susan Crowley first started vacationing in Vero Beach nine years ago. They immediately fell in love with the area and bought a home shortly after their very first trip here, traveling back and forth for a while. They eventually moved from Ludlow, Massachusetts permanently to Vero Beach, bringing with them a unique set of skills and strengths that make them a dynamic team in the local real estate arena.
Joe has a very deliberate and calming personality. As a retired fire fighter, Joe is able to handle things logically, calmly and efficiently, even when everyone else thinks the sky is falling. “Because of my career as a first responder, I tend to view an issue, solve the problem quickly but calmly, and move on to the next issue. There’s nothing that really makes me nervous.” Joe spent 26 years as a firefighter, retiring as Deputy Chief.
Susan, an Accredited Luxury Home Specialist, spent 33 years as a paramedic, the last 15 years with the fire department. Susan is that grounded, everyday person that works really hard, knows how to solve problems and truly cares. She has an inner strength and perseverance about her, a result of dealing with crises on a daily basis. “Because of our background, we are able to handle all situations, and let our clients know that everything’s going to be okay. Our customers know we care about them, it’s not just business, we sincerely want what’s best for them, and we care about the end result for our clients. Joe and I do everything together. We’re easy going. We each have our strengths and take on tasks that can match our strengths.”
Both Joe and Susan have been licensed Realtors® for more than 8 years. “We took our real estate class together and have been joined at the hip ever since,” says Susan. “When we retired we wanted to do something that we could do together, and where we can help people, so real estate was a good fit for us. We’ve made a lot of new friends in this business.”
The duo recently joined Dale Sorensen Real Estate explaining they had their first experience with the company when they bought their home in Vero Beach. “DSRE agent Bill Baysura handled our real estate transaction and we could tell by the level of his professionalism that DSRE must be a great company,” Joe says. “Since joining the company we’ve learned that the training far DSRE exceeds our expectations. The weekly company sales meeting gives us valuable information and the marketing department is behind you with every listing. This really is not offered at most other companies. We’re not new real estate agents, we have the foundation but their training makes me think “why haven’t I been doing that for the past 8 years?”
Susan agrees but expands on something that is critical to the team. “We were very involved in charity work in our home state of Massachusetts so we wanted to be affiliated with a firm that had the same dedication and culture to philanthropy.”
In fact, the Crowleys are very involved with Wreaths Across America, an organization that buys wreaths which are placed on United States veterans’ graves across the country, something they did in their hometown. Their goal is to bring the organization to Vero Beach and surrounding communities. “We want to place seventy-eight wreaths at Memorial Island and Crestlawn Cemetery, in support of our local veterans. Then we would like to expand in to Fort Pierce’s local cemeteries.” The couple is looking for volunteers to help them place the wreaths on December 15th.
Susan and Joe originally fell in love with the weather, lifestyle and pace of life in Vero Beach. Now, they have passion for the local waterways and all that the community has to offer, including theaters and shows, the Friday night art stroll, local culture, music on Ocean Drive, and the variety of events. They enjoy the outdoors, and spend their free time beaching, kayaking and boating.
The couple are both buyers and listing agents and are focused on single family homes and condominiums. As former first responders though, they really want to help veterans with Dale Sorensen Real Estate’s Heroes on the Move program, designed to help give back to first responders, veterans and teachers who are buying and selling a home.
This couple that has given so much back to their communities, who have made putting people first a career, continue to work as a well-oiled machine. “Buying or selling a home is a big deal, it’s a big step in life and we like to guide our clients through, from start to finish,” says Susan.
Joe believes that the two of them can handle anything together. “There’s nothing that comes up that throws us for a loop. When you work with us, you get double the skills, double the strength and double the effort. We really love what we do!”
